Wren

I had an opportunity this past weekend to go away for a much needed girls weekend. I normally visit my friend Jill in the summer and join it up with my Dad’s birthday, but with deadlines and such it didn’t happen. So we pushed our weekend to December – which proved to be an excellent time to do so! Nothing earth-shattering occurs, other than visiting, shopping, movie watching and hanging out. Everything a busy girl needs to detox and feel like a girl again. Jill never disappoints – we got everything on our agenda done, complete with a visit with her sis, Joy, whom I adore. You can’t help but feel relaxed around these gals and their husbands, and now Joy’s precious little girl Wren.

love this picture of this sweet little gal – don’t you want to squish those cheeks?!?

I knew immediately I wanted to do a painting for Wren’s nursery – and I wanted to do something just a hair different. So I started one painting and wound up scrapping it and starting over – but I am so happy with the end result. My painting for Wren:

First, I LOVE her name – unique, but not downright strange. Second – I enjoyed working with an oval canvas – I hadn’t done that before (stupid, I know), but it was fun. I painted the background a pale grey and I wanted to use three dimensional flowers – so I found shades of pink to work with the grey, I attached them with light yellow brads (all materials were purchased at Hobby Lobby). I banded the whole painting in chocolate brown velvet ribbon to hide the staples in the canvas and to give the edge a more finished look. I am very happy with the result – sweet and girly – which is exactly describes precious little Wren.
Today I start my mural/border at Northpoint Pediatrics in Castleton, here in Indy. I’m super excited and super nervous because I’ve never done a wall mural like this before. I’m hoping to get it done in three long nights and a morning. Wish me luck- I’m going to need it!
Thanks!
Next up – Gavin!

I LOVE this! It’s probably one of my favorites that you’ve done. The writing is absolutely gorgeous. Seriously, it should be a font. :)
